Scott Land Photography bio picture

Welcome to my blog

As far back as I can remember I was interested in photography.  I’ve always considered myself an artist and used to take pictures with my father’s 35mm cameras as a child.  My approach to photography is quite simple – get to know my subject.  This is especially important for wedding photographs, my specialty.  When the betrothed feel at ease about the person capturing their most intimate moments on their wedding day, the honesty of their emotion shines brightly in the images.  Candid, un-staged moments come together with breathtaking results.

I’m committed to delivering a quality style to each client.  You’ll find my laid-back and genuine approach quite successful at capturing your special moment.  With 20 years of experience in photography, print, and web design my stylistic and modern technique will deliver high-quality images that accurately capture the moment.

Jacksonville, Oregon Wedding | Makenzie and Branden

Southern Oregon in March brings to mind rain and even snow in places, but March 6, 2010 was a perfect picturesque sunny day to photograph a wedding in Jacksonville, Oregon. This historic and quaint little town, nestled in the valley of the Siskiyou Mountains, was the ideal backdrop for the wedding of Makenzie and Branden. Makenzie had an elegant and regal look to her on her most important day, with Branden standing at her side with his tall stature and muscular build. The occasion played out like an All American romance novel. After the ceremony, we set out to roam the main street of Jacksonville, to photograph the two newlyweds and their colorful cast of bridesmaids and groomsmen, followed by an evening of food, dancing and laughter. The two will be honeymooning in Bend, Oregon and have northwestern outdoor activities planned for the week. Thank you Makenzie and Branden for permitting me to capture you on this particularly special day of your’s.

P.S. If I could go back in time, I would go back to the year 1942 and follow in the foot steps of E Company (”Easy Company”) of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, also known as the Band of Brothers. My father was one of those that fought in World War II, he was stationed in the Pacific on the Island of Saipan. The many stories that have come from that era have fascinated me for years.

Park Privé Wedding in the Rain | Jillian and Jeff

The day started out pouring rain in Costa Mesa, California, while Jillian was getting her hair and make-up done. As the day went on, the sky would open up, the sun would shine through briefly, giving us hope of a rainless afternoon for the ceremony. Jillian wasn’t worried about the rain, actually she loves it. She was having a great day and the photos show it. After getting dressed at the Marriott in Costa Mesa, we had an impromptu photo session in the lobby before heading over to their venue Park Privé, for a first look with Jeff. Here are some of the images from Jillian and Jeff’s beautiful wedding day.

P.S. When I left high school I went into the Army as a cook. One morning as I was making omelets for 100+ soldiers, I dropped 1 omelet on the floor. Not bad for serving that many men and women. The only problem was the one I dropped was for my company commander. It’s funny now…

Laguna Beach Engagement | Kelley and Troy

Engagement session for Kelley and Troy in the heart of Gallery Row in downtown Laguna Beach. As we walked the streets, onlookers would stop and stair with a smile and congratulate Kelley and Troy on their engagement. We even held up traffic slightly on one street as cars passed by. It’s a very laid back little community and no one had a problem with it. The evening ended with a colorful California sunset, which makes for great picture taking that is truly easy on the eyes. With such a beautiful location and an enjoyable couple, it’s pretty difficult to take a bad photo. We had a delicious dinner at the Cliff restaurant as the sun faded away, and we talked about their whole wedding day. Thank you two for a memorable evening.

P.S. I love Nestle Toll House Cookies with a tall glass of milk! I also put ice in the milk to make it extra cold. Is that weird?

Downtown Fullerton Engagement | Jillian and Jeff

Started out at a skate park in Fullerton for an engagement shoot of Jillian and Jeff. Jillian wanted to show us her famousBackside Fakie into a Nosegrindbut was hesitant due to the heels she was wearing. Next time Jillian! Jeff brought the right shoes and showed us his skills and how it’s really done. We headed for downtown Fullerton for a walk through the streets and then to dinner at one of their favorite restaurants, Stubriks Steakhouse. Awesome food and great company! Thanks Jillian and Jeff for a wonderful time and letting me be a part of such an important time in your lives.

P.S. Some day I plan on renting a Goldwing motorcycle and riding through Yellowstone National Park and the state of Montana, with a Fly Fishing Rod in hand, in search for Huge Rainbow Trout. My Camera will be close by my side as well. Document, document, document.

Downtown Disney Engagement | Kendra and John

The timing was perfect for this engagement shoot of Kendra and John in Downtown Disney. The rain stopped just as we started shooting, and it really made all the colors pop as we walked through Downtown Disney. Kendra is a teacher and John is a chef at one of the local restaurants in the area. I had a great time with Kendra and John, we laughed quite a bit during our session. I want to thank them for allowing me to be a part of their engagement and wedding.

P.S. The prime rib at Catal Restaurant in the Downtown Disney was like “Butta”, it melts in your mouth. Wow! Can’t wait to go back.
